The Institute has also implemented a number of projects in the state of Orissa. Some of them are as follows:

Empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions

This was pilot project of the Ministry of rural development, Government of India for the empowerment of the elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj system for a period of one year (1998-1999). The project was implemented by CENDRET- XIMB with the collaboration of All Orissa Panchayat Parishad.

The main focus of the project was to organise awareness camps for the elected representatives and for the public through training, workshops and campaigns through mass media and small media.

Women Empowerment Through Self Help

The Focus of the project is on promoting and strengthening the women self help groups for economic and social upliftment of the women who are marginalised in our society.

The emphasis of the project will be on strengthening the women SHGs through various social, legal and economic initiatives, linking the groups with different financial institutions to mobilise resources and guiding the groups in the formation of federation of women SHGs.

Community Based water Resource Management with Emphasis on Water Quality Improvement and Resource Recovery

The project adopts an integrated approach to water resources and aqua culture development through community participation. This project is implemented by a joint collaboration among XIMB, Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Central Institute for Fresh Water Aqua culture and the Community residing near the selected water bodies.

This novel model and approach is followed in this project, which is being funded by Indo Canadian Environment Fund.

IB Project

The project is carried out South and West Orissa. Strengthen the capacity of all such institutions to play a meaningful role for empowerment of people to manage and control their own resources and change in their society.Approximately 500 village level organisations have been linked successfully with financial institutions in the past one year. At present, in 2002, the project extends to 4900 villages throughout Orissa state and it is monitored through approximately 40 field offices. This project model is one of its kinds in the country and emerged as area of interest for others that are working in power sector in India and abroad. XIMB has already got invitation to extend this project to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Due to its efforts and the astounding success rates till 2001 the Government of India has included a provision for rural franchise operations to be allowed as part of privatization efforts in the Power Bill 2001.
