- CENDERET of XIMB has carried-out evaluation of various
development projects sponsored by the Govt. of India and the Govt. of
Orissa. Some of the important recommendations have been implemented for
the betterment of the target population. The impact studies on the
Operation Flood, Drought Prone Area Programme, DWCRA and on Land Reforms
can be cited as few examples in this context.
- One of
the most recent studies that need to be highlighted is the
Socio-economic Assessment of the Power Sector Reforms in Orissa, (1997)
which was sponsored by ODA - BDCOD of the British High commission, New
Delhi. This was followed by other related studies in the power sector,
viz., on BEINA and on Village Electricity Committee.
- CENDERET
has also done research studies which are based on certain crucial
social issues of the state of Orissa, such as, shifting cultivation and
other issues affecting the lives of tribals, status of primary
education, displacement and rehabilitation in development projects and
so on.
- Attempts have also been made to study the
issues relating to women in Orissa. Studies on the status of women in
Orissa, sexual health, sexual harassment in work places and on a study
on women entrepreneurship has put CENDERET and XIMB in the national and
international map.
- Adequate stress has been given to
study the importance of community participation as is evident from the
studies on village - level peoplesâ?? committees and initiatives, be it
health or education or electricity or forest management.
- Development
of rural retailing of power distribution in Orissa through formation of
Village Electricity Committees and developing rural franchise in 4900
villages: This project is one of its kind in the world and it is closely
watched as a model by the donors and organisations who are working in
power sector in India. XIM has already got invitation to extend this
project to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Due to its efforts and the
success till 2001 the Government of India has included a provision for
rural franchise operations to be allowed as part of privatisation
efforts in the Power Bill 2001.
